As the seasons change and the sun starts to set earlier our natural instinct to light some pumpkin spice scented candles and warm the home with the glow and smells of fall. I love the glow of candles and the ambience they set, but I refuse to turn a blind eye to the scented candles and all of the chemicals they infuse into the home.
The gasping breath is said to emulate the last breath we take in life before we die. I’m not sure what the significance of this is, but once you have gotten the hang of breathing like this and your mind can focus on meditation is when the really trippy stuff can happen.
Who doesn't love a good Tan? I was all about fake baking as a teenager. It was a bad, bad habit, but despite how bad I knew it was I wouldn’t stop. It took a friend with a melanoma scare from a tanning bed that made me promise to stop I finally got out of the tanning bed routine. I love worshipping the sun and still enjoy being in the sun and getting some Vitamin D. Now I am aware of the damage to my skin that I was doing basking away in the sun while simultaneously aging my skin. One thing you can’t deny is the accelerated aging of your skin from exposure to sunlight. Elders would always tell me about the dangers of tanning and the sun and now I wish I would have listened. Now I lather up ORGANIC SPF and layer clothing for protection + hat and enjoy the summer heat.
What's a girl who wants to protect her skin, but loves a great tan to do? Add a new weekly ritual of self spray to get me through! A great form of self care is boosting your confidence with a fabulous organic spray tan!
A great motto for life, as well legit advice for breaking up with your sugar addiction. When my cravings hit their worse, ultimately it was my spice cabinet that kept me from running to the store for a bag of Gluten Free Tate’s Cookies. The thought may have occurred to me on one, two, or ten occasions. My cravings for sweets are always at it’s worst post meal time. I’ve got that savory taste on my tongue and I just want something to balance it out.
The list goes on and on. With the ever evolving health and wellness trends on the rise and the light being shined on the reality of our food supply an increasing number of people are turning to alternative lifestyles focused around health.
Hard to believe that a month has already flown by since I first began my quest to try out and review 4 different streaming workouts. That is right, a month just like that!!!!!!! With all of the snow/ bitter cold weather we’ve had over the last month, the whole not having to leave my house to get my sweat on sure did came in handy. Convenience aside, the real question is.....
Does anyone else have the Spring cleaning bug? I love getting organized and refreshing my space. It just goes along with this time of year. And it's still cold enough to stay inside and get organized and not have FOMO of outdoor activities.
Charcoal has been having a moment! Over the last year I have seen countless charcoal beauty and wellness products advertised across all forms of social media. I’m seeing it in detox drinks (have you heard of the Dirty Lemon Cleanse), countless beauty products ( teeth whiteners, masks, soap, the list goes on and on), and now it’s even making it’s way into every day treats (a number of trendy ice cream spots are now serving up charcoal flavor variations). So yea charcoal is pretty much everywhere!
We are all looking for the fountain of youth for skin care. I only recently realized that I need to take better care of my skin. Once I brought awareness to it, my skin keeps getting brighter, clearer and more glowy so I feel like I have to share one of my skincare secrets.
I have been wanting that for the past oh idk? forever! But now I actually am making the changes to give me a prayer at reaching my goals and toning up, (forreal!) For summer. Having a strong core is also very advantageous for your health. It helps with posture, which improves back issues and protects your vital organs.
I feel like everyone, regardless if you consider yourself a sweetaholic or not, could benefit from the occasional sugar break. Sugar is literally lurking everywhere. Used in approximately 75 percent of packaged foods purchased in the United States, most of us, myself included, don’t even realize how much sugar we actually take in every single day. The average American consumes anywhere from a quarter to a half pound of sugar a day. Every time I read this statistic my mind is blown.
One time I went to an Alpaca marketplace in Denver and it turned out they not only had alpaca wares it was a full on ALPACA CONVENTION! Ever since I have been moderately-severely OBSESSED with alpacas. LIIIKe they are the fluffiest things on the planet. They are so adorable and the best part is they are SUSTAINABLE.
I know it seems crazy to be thinking of summer and even mentioning bikini season in February, but now is the time to start focusing on your fitness goals for that summer body. The end of February/ early March has always been the time that I kick my ass into gear to get ready for summer. I know it seems early, but waiting last minuet and trying to shed 10 pounds or get washboard abs in a month ain’t going to happen.
If what your looking for is all the nitty gritty details about Intermittent Fasting (IF). A post that gives you the HOW and WHY IF works. This is not it. If you are looking for all the IF dets because you literally know nada, zero, zilch about it and your dying tone in the know then I suggest going here and checking out the great post Anna’a wrote on the subject a couple of months ago. This post right here is simply a recap of my own experience with IF……….
First of all the No Fat/Low Fat diet trend is SO 1990’s. At least 20-35% of your daily calories should come from fats, but not just any fats, Healthy Fats. I'm sure you've heard about the Ketogenic diet. If not you should read this book Fat for Fuel by Dr. Joseph Mercola or get some research on his website mercola.com. I will be doing a more in depth post on ketogenic or as he calls it MMT Mitochondrial, metabolic therapy. It focuses on fueling your body with fats and switching from burning glucose to burning fat.
This is a short and sweet little post about letting shit go that no longer serves you. Also, I kind of really see this as a part two to my New Year’s Intention post. At the start of this month, actually 14 days ago to be exact, I talked about setting your intentions for the New Year.
I feel like over the last few months I have been hearing and reading about these miracle crackers everywhere. This is not an over exaggeration. I remember the first time I heard about them I was running in Central Park, listening to a podcast ( I’m drawing a blank here on the actual podcast I was listening to), and a trainer featured on this particular episode was swearing by this miracle snack that she recommended for anyone trying to lose weight.
IIIIIII LOVE the smell and taste of coffee. I am all about the darkest of dark, bitter chocolates and this translates to hard core black coffee. However the good ol’ cup of joe is not part of my AM routine, or afternoon pick me up or evening post dinner digestif. NADA.
Glowing Skin is always in. I definitely am not blessed with the best skin and have struggled with hormonal breakouts forever. AND now on top of balancing that out I also have to combat signs of aging and damage that was done to my skin in my teenage years. GUILTY of tanning beds. (WHY!? )
There are so many reasons why I love these Cucumber Rose Eye Masks but the number one reason is that I know exactly what is in them! Have you ever looked at what is in your masks before? Don't bother because you won't even be able to read it = chemicals! Something that is nourishing for your skin should not be filled with chemicals.
After a week long holiday hiatus we are back and kicking of this New Year’s with what I feel is a pretty appropriate post given the day. As most of us are this time of the year, I am coming off a week long spree of festivities. This holiday season was particularly amped up for me as I had my cousin’s wedding this past Friday. With all of the celebration going on around me I can not exactly claim that I was at my healthiest.
They call it “Holiday weight” for a reason. It’s easy for us to lose sight of our health goals over the holiday season. Frequent eating, drinking, and being merry have a clear nutritional dark side. Other less obvious factors can contribute to weight gain around the holidays including: increased stress levels, travel, and the interruption of routine. Here are some tips for avoiding the holiday bulge.
I found this oil at the Moon Juice shop in Venice beach and decided to give it a go. As you know I am constantly converting everyday products to more natural, organic and closer to the earth alternatives. I love organic oils that replace beauty products and these ingredients were top notch (most products contain toxic, cancer causing ingredients). This oil can be used as a perfume, under your makeup as a moisturizer, blended with your foundation, or anywhere you use oils, I just slather it on!
Diet trends and fads are constantly circulating. I feel like I can barely keep up with them all. Studying nutrition in college I have always been fascinated with health, wellness and the best way to care for your body on a daily basis. When I learned more about intermittent fasting and the potentially life extending benefits I was very intrigued and have been consciously practicing this lifestyle for the past 4 years.
In case you haven’t heard we partnered with WholeFoods to do a bit of product testing this past month. Rather then just write a product review I thought this would be a great opportunity to also do a little educating about the different ingredients used in conventional body care.
The holidays are upon us the weather is getting colder and all of this can leave us feeling drained and more susceptible to catching a virus. The healing, buzzy bone broth is readily available at local grocery stores to remedy that and even on tap at different market places. I have been jealous of the locals sipping on their bone broths while shopping for local goods so I decided to create a vegan broth that is packed with even more nutrients and benefits than any old bone broth can offer.
